That would be determined in an implementation phase. The question for the Delegates is whether the idea is worth pursuing. If you have specific ideas of how this might be best administered, please include that in your feedback.
-
The purpose of this Deliberation is to capture the ideas the Delegates want to see Montrose pursue. There are several possible ways to fund any public initiative. See response to this question here (add link to FAQ that deals with where money comes from)

Great question. This would be determined during an implementation phase. But, we’ve learned from Community Options, for example, that if one becomes an official volunteer of Community Options, that person is included on their insurance policy. But that would require more looking into. The question for the Delegates is whether this idea is worth pursuing, and if so, are there ways it out to be changed to make it work better?

If staff of the youth services organizations are doing the driving, then they have to go through a vetting process at their organizations to work with kids, which includes a background check. Otherwise, drivers might be vetted in a similar way that bus drivers are vetted today. But what are your thoughts on this?
-
As the idea exists right now, it might lead providers to create more spots for kids, knowing that the after-school transportation problem is solved. But your concern is a trade-off of the idea. Do you have thoughts on changing this idea to improve it?
-
The current form of the idea assumes at least one bus or van starting at each school location, and dropping kids from that school at their after-school programs. But do you have thoughts on how it should work?
-
Good question. How do you think this would best be handled?
-
Where a school is located, whether this is one vehicle or two transporting children, how many stops the vehicle has to make to drop kids off at after-school programs are all variables that would affect the duration of the ride for kids dropped off last. Do you think there should be a target for the maximum amount of time to get to an afterschool program?
-
These ideas are jumping off points for the Assembly. What are your thoughts about how to change these ideas to make them stronger?

The Montrose Recreation District has a large number of volunteer opportunities available. The majority of our volunteers are youth sports coaches (baseball, softball, soccer, volleyball, basketball, etc.). Other opportunities within the sports realm are scorekeepers, officials (refs, umpires), field maintenance, and pickleball instructor or tournament helper. Outside of the sports realm, there are volunteer opportunities in the after school programs, climbing wall instruction, landscaping, senior center activity leaders, 50+ tour drivers, and many more! There is a formal (but simple) onboarding process for volunteers, there is no public access portal for people to see our volunteer opportunities. If you have a passion to spread to the community, the Montrose Recreation Department wants to hear from you For now, interested volunteers should contact Debby Zarkis, Business Operations and Project Coordinator at debby@montroserec.com, 970-249-7705.
